Hometown Girl…this is your time to shine! First stop…invading Bicol!
After three years of hiatus from the pageant scene, the Wellness Dica, Ms. Cory Quirino, is back to claim her rightful position in the beauty pageant industry. This was evident in her six years of handling the prestigious Miss World-Philippines, where she produced the country’s first-ever Miss World, Megan Young, in 2013. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Recently, Cory faced the media and beauty pageant enthusiasts (and bloggers), during the launch held at Ascott Hotel (Glorietta, Makati), when she announced her return in the world of pageantry. Her advocacy and passion to look for the deserving beautiful girls and make a difference in their lives has always been in her heart and vision. As the new president of Mutya ng Pilipinas, she intended to continue in search for that “Hometown Girl” who will represent our country in the international beauty pageants. And with this desire in mind, she hoped that she will continue to cultivate this passion and be able to leave a mark in the industry where every Filipina deserves a chance to fulfill her dream.
“In an organic competition like Mutya ng Pilipinas, I have come to realize that all kinds of beauties deserve to be discovered and be given every opportunity for growth and be developed. And this is what I intend to pursue now, our original platform, by embarking on a grass root campaign in alliance with our partners, like the Liga ng mga Barangay, and under the auspices of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG),” she explained. Incidentally, Mutya ng Pilipinas just celebrated its Golden Anniversary in the industry a year ago. And part of this milestone is a continuance celebration of beauty and pageantry in the tradition of providing brighter and bigger dreams for aspiring candidates.
And to achieve her goal and vision for her new task, Cory is ably supported by notable people, such as Ms. Eden Pineda, the president of Liga ng mga Barangay, and Undersecretary Martin Dino of DILG. Unknown to many, Mr. Dino’s daughter, Ms. Liza Dino, the head of FDCP (Film Development Council of the Philippines), was a product of the said beauty search.
Also giving Cory full support are two of her biggest allies, Mr. Fred Yuson (Chairman of the Board of Mutya ng Pilipinas), and balladeer Ogie Alcasid (member of the Board). “Actually, it was Ogie who first called weeks before Christmas about this, since Fred is his golf mate, and Fred was honest enough to admit that he has no idea what to do since he bought the franchise,” she recalled. “He told me that he wanted to concentrate on his business (real estate), but he will be there to support me and our causes. Eventually, just last January, after a thorough conversation and exchanging of ideas, I finally said…YES! And I think my vision and Fred’s vision about the pageant are one. And we promise you that will go a step higher in our goals and aspirations in looking for the right “Hometown Girl.”
To be able to find that “Hometown Girl,” there will be regional search to be conducted starting next month (April). So far, five provinces are in their list – Bicol, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and NCR. So girls, watch for it.
