Congratulations to the People’s Champ!
After he delivered an awry fight and eventually won against his younger opponent Adrien Broner, 40-year-old Manny Pacquiao defended his WBA welterweight title which he won against Argentine Lucas Mathhysse in Malaysia last year. In a very tight fight yesterday morning (Manila time), it was a unanimous decision in favor of the boxer-turned-politician, held at the MGM Grand Arena with more than 13,000 packed crowd.
In his victory speech, he said, “I proved in my last fight against Matthysse and now I proved it again. The Manny Pacquiao journey will still continue.” And he challenged Floyd Mayweather, who was present watching the fight, to make a ring comeback, considered as today’s biggest boxing star, and he’s willing to fight him again. Although reportedly, the much-awaited rematch will never happen because the American boxer is now retired, as claimed by Leonard Ellerbe (Mayweather’s adviser).
The report also said that aside from retaining his crown, Pacquiao was guaranteed a US$10 million cash, while Broner, the proud fighter from Cincinnati was assured of a US$2.5 million just to challenge the Filipino most-awarded boxer.
Pacman’s message to his family and his Filipino supporters worldwide.
