Every year, APO Palawan Chapter celebrates “Run of the Valiants” to commemorate the group’s founding anniversary in the province. But this time, it is bolder and more memorable.
(Puerto Princesa) Twenty brave members of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity show off everything for traditional “Run of the Valiants,” a run/walk protest of APO Palawan chapter that happened last Dec 12 at 3 p.m. along Palawan State University road in Puerto Princesa City.
The said event was their way of getting an attention and wanted to send a message for everyone that we have to protect Mother Nature. This year’s theme was about environmental protection, and they wanted to emphasize on educating the public about the bad effect of using plastic and the importance of waste-management segregation and strictly following all the laws about environment.
The walk started at the down part of the said University road, where the marchers were escorted by some female members who were carrying placards and red roses that were given to selected female audience they choose. Upon reaching the university gate they form a circle and started singing their toast song, a fellowship hymn of the organization.
Grace Belostrino, one of APO Alumni who helped organize this year’s event said that this Palawan Valiant Run is now on its fifth year, and this is in line with APO founding anniversary every December 16. Belostrino said there are 3,000 members mostly alumni of APO in the whole province of Palawan. And among the leading chapters they have are in Palawan State University (aka Theta Gamma), Western Philippines University in Aborlan, Palawan Polytechnic College, Inc and in the Municipality of Rizal.
APO Palawan is also active in doing regular outreach activities such as bloodletting programs and coastal clean-up. And come December 16, they will have a formal dinner event for all the members, alumni and visiting members at the “Sienatel,” a gathering they all look forward every year.
