Still a bachelor, he has been playing father roles in most of his TV shows for the past years. And he plays it with flying colors. Is this a sign that Zanjoe is planning to settle down soon?
Kapamilya actor Zanjoe Marudo can very well relate to his role in Playhouse, ABS-CBN’s newest teleserye replacing the slot of Sana Dalawa ang Puso. “Si Marlon kasi once na in love at naramdaman na niya iyon, hindi siya umaatras dahil paninindigan niya iyon,” he said. In real life, he also professed that he’s the type of guy who’s loyal to his exes. As a matter of fact, there was nary an instance where he was accused as a two-timer nor a womanizer. “Pag nagmahal kasi ako, stick to one ako,” he quipped.
Speaking of his new show Playhouse, he said that the story and characters are quite relatable, too. “Playhouse is a story of second chances. It’s about annulment. Iyong mga desisyon sa buhay at decision-making na hindi basta-basta ka na lang magpapakasal nang maaga, lalo pa kung hindi pa kayo handa o in love na in love kayo dahil siguro ayaw ninyong mawala ang isa’t-isa. Iyon pala, marami pa palang problemang daraan sa buhay kaya kayo nagkahiwalay,” he said.
As Guido Querubin in Anna Liza, Sebastian Javier in Dream Dad and Jude de Jesus in My Dear Heart, and now Marlon Ilaban in Playhouse, he also said that playing a doting father was not something he imposed. “Hindi naman siya by choice. Siguro, noong first time na gumawa ako na may kasamang bata, iyong Anna Liza na ginampanan ni Andrea (Brillantes), nakita nila na may chemistry ako sa mga bata. So, after noon, lagi na nila akong binibigyan ng teleserye na lagi akong may kasamang mga bata,” he explained.
Still a bachelor, he also denied that he already sired a kid that’s why he’s too believable in portraying affectionate father roles. “Iyon nga, eh. Hindi ko rin alam. Baka siguro sa personality ko. Sa itsura ko. Kapag may katabi kasi akong bata, nagiging kumportable din sila lagi sa akin,” he said.
Regarding his bed scenes with Angelica (Panganiban), he claimed that executing them became easy because of the level of comfort they have as friends for almost ten years. “Wala namang ilangan. Nakakatawa nga sobra noong ginawa namin iyong love scene. Tagal na tagal na rin kasi naming single ni Angelica. Sabi ko, sandali lang, baka may makiliti sa mga feelings namin,” he said.
“Buti na lang at suwerte ko dahil ang gagaling lahat ng mga kasama ko na napa-partner sa akin at pulos mga professional,” he added. PlayHouse will revolve around the theme that love is a choice – it is a person’s will to choose someone repeatedly, but it may also change in an instant. This is the story of Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo’s characters Patty and Marlon – two college lovers who will eventually get married. However, their dream of having a long lasting love will be tested by struggles that will eventually lead to their breakup.
After of a long time living separately, the two meet again as Patty files for an annulment to formally separate with Marlon. But just when they think everything is over between them, an unfortunate tragedy will change their lives forever. Their friends Emily and Brad will get into an accident, leaving their child Robin (Justin James Quilantang) behind. As the kid’s legal guardians, Patty and Marlon will be forced to stay together under one roof to take care of Robin and make sure he gets the love he needs.
This gives Marlon the opportunity to patch things up with Patty, despite her constant disapproval. Will Robin be the key to giving Patty and Marlon a second chance? Aside from Angelica and Zanjoe, the rising love team of teen stars Kisses Delavin and Donny Pangilinan will also bring kilig to viewers. They will play Shiela and Zeke, two enemies who will eventually fall for each other.
Meanwhile, also part of PlayHouse are Kean Cipriano, AC Bonifacio, Ariella Arida, Dexter Doria, Nadia Montenegro, Ingrid Dela Paz, Jomari Angeles, Malou De Guzman, Smokey Manaloto, and Maxene Magalona. This new teleserye will bring a daily dose of happiness and prove that love deserves a second chance, it will start airing on Monday (September 17) on ABS-CBN.
