“There was a time, napagod na ako sa kasasagot. It’s not easy na gumawa ng bata na dahil iyon ang tradisyon, iyon ang kultura na magpapatibay sa mag-asawa.”
Happily married to travel and fashion blogger Kim Jones for five years now, Kapamilya hunk actor Jericho Rosales has always been cherishing his time as an actor, singer and songwriter. In this interview, he admitted that he is sensitive when asked all over again about his plan of having a baby with his life partner.
“I am not offended,” the actor claimed, “but I think, we have to understand that not everyone is well informed. It’s all about being informed about the feelings of a couple. It’s like when you see someone casually and say ‘O, kumusta ka na, kelan kayo magkaka-baby?’ You don’t know what the couple is going through, in the same way that Kim and I are going through something.
“You have to consider there are couples who can’t make a baby, like physically ay hindi puwede, financially hindi kaya. Ang daming reasons involved. It’s a question na medyo casual ang dating and can’t blame the people for asking, but it’s about time that people must understand that it’s not easy to raise a child. Because, why? If you are not prepared to raise a child, iyong bata ang mahihirapan.
“I am a product of a couple not ready for a relationship, and I had my share of hard times and that’s where it’s coming from. Ang nagsu-suffer iyong bata, sila iyong naaapektuhan, but I don’t get insulted.
“Let’s just be careful in asking people, ‘O kelan ka magkaka-baby?’ Alam mo naman ngayon, ang mga tao ang dami nilang isyu ngayon. For me, it’s very important iyong feelings ng women, feelings of men, feelings of the couples,” he explained.
He even boasted of his happy marriage to wife Kim. “It’s amazing. We’re going five years now, it’s a growing relationship. Our focus now is our individual career and our relationship with each other. Travelling together, having more time na ma-enjoy namin iyong lifestyle namin na magkasama kaming dalawa,” he stressed.
“She has a new business,” Jericho shared. “It’s an e-commerce platform for online shopping but it’s now global. Medyo stressed out siya sa ibang bagay, but happy siya.”
On the lighter side, Jericho is glad to be back on primetime. He is one of the stars of Halik, ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida’s most daring teleserye of the year. It is a story of love tested by time and temptation, and it will premiere on July 30, replacing the slot of Piolo Pascual and Arci Munoz’ Since I Found You.
Halik centers on Lino (Jericho), Jacky (Yen Santos) and their star-crossed love for each other, which began when they were still children. Jacky’s parents disapprove of Lino as he is the son of one of their workers. Eventually, Lino decides to stay away to spare Jacky from getting more hurt.
In a twist of fate, the two meet again after years apart, but they are now married to other people. Lino is with Jade,(Yam Concepcion) an ambitious, headstrong woman, who finds a way to get what she wants, while Jacky’s husband is Ace,(Sam Milby) a rich man whose sweetness hides a secret. Now that destiny has given them another chance at being together, they must choose between fighting for the love they were deprived of and keeping their promise of forever to people who may not deserve it.
Aside from the teleserye’s powerful plot, the series features a lot of sizzling scenes. He confessed also that he can identify with his role because he has experienced and gone a lot before finding his perfect life partner.
“Whether or not pinagdaanan ko iyon, alam mo, I have to do my homework. Sobrang happy dahil may pinagdaanan na ako, kaya naipo-portray ko siya nang maayos,” he quipped. Having worked with different leading ladies, he said that he tried not to be carried away by a kiss or a love scene, no matter how brief or perfunctory it may seem.
“It’s what you do with it. It’s not about what you’ve given or what you received but what you do about it,” he explained. “Kaya nga, it’s important to meditate, pray and prepare yourself or don’t put yourself in a situation na alam mong tatagilid ka. You have to be professional. Kailangang basahin mo iyong iskrip. I always respect my leading ladies so I guess, Yam and Yen are comfortable talking about it, because I have one person that I love most and that’s my wife. She understands my job. She respects me and I respect her back. That’s what I love about it. She knows me na hindi ko lang ginagawa ang isang project dahil may gusto akong halikan o may gusto akong ganoon,” he concludes.
Also in the cast of Halik are Amy Austria, Alan Paule, Precious Lara Quigaman, Romnick Sarmenta, Cris Villanueva, Almira Muhlach, Christian Bables, Hero Angeles, Chai Fonacier, JC Alcantara, Jane De Leon, and Gab Lagman. The show is directed by Cathy Camarillo and Carlo Po Artillaga under the business unit of Ruel Bayani.
