“Making a name for myself will always be a challenge. No matter what happens, they will always be my family. I will always be a daughter and a sister.”
After earning her degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management, major in Tourism, Garie Concepcion, the daughter of award-winning actor, Gabby Concepcion, and younger sister of singer-actress KC Concepcion, decided to pursue her desire to become a singer. This happened only after she had fulfilled her promise to her mom, Grace Ibuna (businesswoman), and presented her diploma. Thus, she was ready to attain and fulfill her dream of becoming a recording artist and share her music to everyone.
But as the daughter of a popular and talented actor, acting and movie offers are not far behind. But before she delved into movie acting, she equipped herself by taking acting workshops, here and abroad. She went to U.S. and took acting classes at New York Film Academy, Los Angeles Campus. And after her return, she immediately accepted a stage play a couple of years ago.
In spite of her acting job, her love for music was always there. She appeared as guest performer in several concerts. As a musician, Garie has composed several songs in collaboration with some of her friends. In fact, some of her works are being played on Spotify. And recently, she released an EP under Warner Music Philippines, with the carrier single “Umaasa.” She co-wrote it with her boyfriend, singer-recording artist Michael Pangilinan, and another friend named JM.
Now, Garie just finished a movie, her first lead role, the psychological-thriller indie film, The Lease. Directed by Italian filmmaker Paolo Bertola, under a new film outfit, Utmost Creatives. She will be working, also for the first time with award-winning filmmaker Fil-Italian Ruben Maria Soriquez (Of Sinners And Saints, Dolce Amore as the dad of Liza Soberano).
“This is my first horror film and my first lead role in a film,”Garie shared. “And I’m very excited and at the same time nervous. I love horror films and I always dreamt of being a part of a horror film. So, with this film, it is a dream come true,” she added. As a horror film enthusiast, she mentioned some of her favorite thriller films, such as The Sixth Sense, The Eye (Japanese version), Shutter, The Grudge, The Ring, etc. The Lease will be shown on June 25 in selected theaters.
