One must know her assets and limitations in wearing a wedding gown. Her body type, skin color, height and even her personality are factors in determining what type of wedding gown a woman should wear.
As the month of June came to an end, more weddings were celebrated and more ladies wanted to be labeled as June brides. In celebration of the so-called bridal month, more bridal fairs and bridal fashion shows were held in many parts of the country during this season. This is a time of the year where we can see so many bridal gowns featured in magazines, bridal exhibits and bridal fashion shows.

One of the many creative things I always love doing as a designer is designing wedding gowns, ever since I started way back in 1996. For me, a wedding gown should be the most beautiful gown a woman should wear in the most significant event of her life.
For a bride to achieve in wearing a beautiful gown, there are things she should know and understand. A beautiful gown worn by one bride may not work for the other. It is easy to choose a design if you’re body structure is the model type, tall and slim. The determining factor there would be the upper part, if you have broad shoulders and if you have big boobs or not. If you have broad shoulders, haltered style fits you well. If you have big boobs, you can have a little cleavage on thy style of your gown.
Wearing a close neckline will make you look bigger. Almost any cut on the lower part of the gown would work on someone who is tall, be it a full balloon ball gown, empire cut, A-line cut or even a mermaid cut gown. On someone who is petite, be careful in wearing full balloon skirts as this may make you look smaller. If you want a balloon skirt, choose on skirt styles that are not too big.
For brides who are top heavy, you have to be very particular with the cut of the gown specially on the upper part. Corsets would work on some of them but not all. If you are top heavy but still have a shape (quite smaller waist), corsets usually would work on you. If you’re problem is having a big tummy, do not attempt to wear corsets, thinking that it would give you shape and wear a style that is fitted. Aside from giving you too much discomfort, it would not work in concealing your tummy. An empire cut would be the best option for you.
For the arm, style depends on the personality of the person. There are people who can get away with sleeveless gowns in spite of their heavy built. Otherwise, you can have options like having sleeves, long or short, or you can do off shoulder style on your gown.
It is good to follow trends, but more than the trend you should be choosing a gown that fits you well. Personally, I always choose a style that would look good in pictures even if you look at it 20 years later.
Indeed, the month of June gave most designers the chance to showcase their best bridal designs. A few days ago, we had some fashion shows and exhibits that presented our works. We had a bridal exhibit and fashion show held at Robinsons Magnolia participated by the Designer Circle Philippines (DCP). On the last day of June, I had a bridal show and exhibit at Century Mall showcasing some of my bridal gown creations.
