Seven Bataeǹo choirs hailing from the different municipalities of Bataan took center stage as they compete in a neck to neck chorale competition finals held last Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.
By the end of the night, choir from the Municipality of Samal emerged victorious as they took home the top place.
Following them were the chorale groups from City of Balanga and Municipality of Pilar as second and third placer respectively.
Among the judges were University of Santo Tomas professor Armand Joseph Villanueva who explained that the winning team carried a burning heart during their performance.
“Dun lang sila nagkakatalo, sa tinatawag na puso. Becase what matters most is that they’re enjoying what they’re doing and people can relate to their singing. Sabi nga, ‘music is a language.’ So dapat naiintindihan ng nakakarinig, nakaka-relate ‘yung tao.”
Saint Catherine of Siena Academy Choir Master Hanz Andrei Siasat mentioned that their team is primarily composed of high school students “na ngayon lang po ulit nakasali sa contest.”
When asked about the cash prize, he said, “Hindi po kami nagpa-plano sa premyo kasi we’re just competing for participation lang.
“Nakatulong po yung pagdadasal namin para manalo.”
He gleefully added, “Dahil nga po sa mga kilalang musicians ng aming parokya, naipasa po ‘yung talent sa mga bata at ginagabayan po kami ng parish choir.”
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar launched the Christmas Chorale Competition to pave way for the locals to show-off their world-class singing prowess and let the audience feel the peace and solitude that the holidays bring.
Launched in October, said contest was open to all municipalities and one city of Bataan. The preliminaries took place on December 7 along with the property’s “Christmas Tree-Cycle” Contest and Official Tree-Lighting Ceremony.
Paul Kerr, Marivent Resort Hotel, Inc. President, said in his opening speech, “Christmas is a time of community, that’s why we’re doing this together with the communities of Bataan, to show unity and to celebrate Christmas together.
“It’s Christmas time, it’s a time for community and it’s a time for family. We thought chorale competition would be a nice way to combine that with the celebration of Christmas with Las Casas.”
In a separate interview, he added, “it’s part of our Corporate Responsibilities as being a large business in Bataan to involve the community a little bit in our success and to celebrate a little bit of community spirit.”
Participating municipalities include Mariveles, Morong, Dinalupihan, and Orion.
Choir group from Samal received PHP 200,000 while runners-up Balanga and Pilar won PHP 100,000 and PHP 50,000 respectively.
